theExplorer

I finally finished my explorer illustration. I spent a lot of time re-working it, but I'm happy with it at this point. I plan on using this as a promotional piece, as I embark on to paths unknown....

old friend

I certainly don't feel like I've been creating enough work lately, and I definitely have not been blogging enough. Here are some sketchbook pages from the last few days. I'll do some sprucing up, make this a more exciting place to visit.

Ink Painting

This is the finished Ink painting for my promo illustration. It's more complex than anything I've illustrated with this technique, but I think it's turned out fairly well. Now I'm going to digitally finish off the illustration in photoshop, and add design elements for the post card, which I should hopefully be posting here soon.

thumb

This is a thumbnail sketch for an new personal illustration I'm working on. The work will be a postcard that I will mail out for self - promotion. I was thinking about what I wanted to say about myself, especially since this would be my first promo post card, I thought that it should convey an emergence, the initial steps to a greater exploration. I wanted to show I am a new artist looking to begin to share my work and my imagination with others, and to hopefully engage with a variety of people in all walks of life. Also I wanted to express my current interest and influence by science fiction works, books, and artwork. The image of an astronaut like explorer who would represent me as an artist, rising out of his electronic constrains to advance into the focal point.

Well I'm finally graduating, so I've been putting my book together and I thought maybe I should post something on the blog, seeing as how it's been a long while. Here are some random sketches, rough work, and sketch book pages.

spasm.

This is an abstract ink drawing I did this evening. It's kind of fun, but the scan doesn't do it the justice I thought, oh well.

Goals.

I've decided that I need to be more diligent and consistent with my sketchbook, so I have set a goal to do a page a day. I'm hoping this will improve my drawing ability, and give me a wealth of new idea's. (since I'll be drawing everyday, I might try and post every day..) This spread is today's, it's pen, stream of conciousness + loose observational drawings.

space painting

A new painting, the colours didn't quite translate after I scanned it, and that made me see it a bit differently, it might get more work.
